I learned a lot from this first project in ART 4 about using prisma colors as well as learned about myself as an artist. Prisma colors are a medium I did not have a lot of experience with before this project. Although the I kind of hated them at first once I learned to use them it got a lot easier and more fun to use. I hate to admit it but I sort of like prisma colors now after learning how to use them and blending. They allow a lot of detail which is both a good thing and a bad thing. I really like how my cat turned out I think it had good composition and color choices as well as good craftsmanship. Overall I really liked my finished product and enjoyed the process as well.
Mixed media: BirdhouseThe mixed media Birdhouse was my first piece of the summer. The mixed medians I used were acrylic, oil pastels and scrapbook paper. Mixed media is a bit out of my comfort zone as compared to my usual acrylics, yet this was probably my favorite piece I made this summer. This was my favorite and I would say my best piece over the summer because I took my time, stepped out of my comfort zone and really improved as an artist. I learned what works and what doesn't work when doing mixed media. I like the medians I choose because I feel they complemented each other. I used the oil pastels for the branches, and acrylic for the rest. I would say this is a high quality piece with good composition because I used the rule of thirds instead of centering the subject. Overall I am very proud of my Mixed Media Birdhouse. Family ShoesI have never painted shoes before this piece and I found that I am not all that fond of shoes. They are very difficult due to the detail and perspective at which they are displayed. Although I was pleased with how they turned out. I learned you have to paint what you see and not what your brain wants you to paint. This is the key to many painting are using your eyes not your brain. You can not paint or draw anything until you really see the subject and pay attention to the details. FridgeFor this piece I drew a fridge and the items in it, but instead of actually drawing the items in the fridge I decided to write the words in the shapes of the foods. I think this made it a very unusual interior and was a creative way to display what's in my fridge. This was not my favorite piece and I think I definitely could have been better quality. Maybe even have used different materials like water colors with pen. If I were to do this again I would do water colors and used them as an underlay then have the edges and words in pen. Overall this piece was a good idea but could have be executed better. Vintage BottlessI used watercolor colored pencils to draw and then paint coke bottles and root-beer bottles. I really like this piece and thought that the light coat of water color showed the concept of glass well. Bottles are very inorganic shapes so it can be hard at time to get the sides symmetrical. The different shapes of the bottles add interest to the drawing and more visually appealing. I like the light feel of this piece which is the same feeling of drinking soda with the carbonates. This is one of the many reason why I chose this material for this piece, because it had a hidden meaning.
