There is a gray area between plagiarism and copying which has been proved through this art class. In the beginning, there was not a reasoning behind the difference but now I understand the difference. Plagiarism is creating an exact replica of another artist work and claiming it as your own. Copying is being inspired by another artist work and creating your own version of the piece. During this class I did a project copying an others artwork were I did a North Carolina string art project and found a way to make it my own.
There are many reasons why artist make art which is one of the major things I have learned through this class. At First, I thought that artist only made art to express themselves. I have found that there is so much more to art than self expression. To make art you have to be inspired and then proceed to make your own way. I make art because I really love to do it. I enjoy the process of making art the challenges you face. Occasionally, I get frustrated with it and have to take a break from art but I always come back to making art especially painting. An artist may also make art to please other so they can enjoy art as well. There is no singular answer to the question, "Why do artist make art?".
I have learned a lot of different artistic styles and what time periods they tend to belong with. Starting the year, I only knew a few types of artistic styles for example: realistic, graphic, animated, and abstract. So little knowledge about the different styles which really limited me. Learning new style has helped me grow and improve as an artist and I have even practiced these different styles. Also I began to incorporate these styles in my art work. Some of the new artistic styles are conceptual, realistic, fine art, abstract, modern, contemporary, and many more.
